Welcome

A unique opportunity to improve quality of life in Exeter

Thank you for your interest in joining our Senior Leadership team at Exeter City Council.

Exeter is a powerhouse of the regional economy, a thriving city of culture and great city for quality of life. Home to one of the UK’s most prestigious universities and an outstanding FE college, Exeter is a leading city of education and scientific research, especially in the field of climate change.

Our Senior Leadership Management Restructure has led to a unique opportunity for five experienced and highly motivated leaders to join us in delivering outstanding services which continue our role in Exeter’s journey to drive growth for the city and wider area, and deliver for the residents and communities in our city.

We are looking for brilliant people to fill senior roles which are key to helping us deliver our strategic priorities and shape the future for the city in the years ahead.

We need motivational leaders with a strong track record of success in managing complex operations, who can engage with elected members, partners and communities to ensure that Exeter continues to be an outstanding place to live, work and visit.

We are seeking innovative and values-based leaders who can make informed, evidence-based decisions that benefit Exeter and its communities and can lead and shape the future of key services to make a real difference to the community.

The health and wellbeing of residents is a key strategic priority. Exeter’s thriving new leisure centre, St Sidwell’s Point, in the heart of the city centre, was funded by the Council and is the first Passivhaus facility of its kind in Europe.

Our Sport England funded local delivery pilot Live and Move is breaking down health inequalities by targeting support and encouraging physical activity in areas of the city with the biggest need.

We are passionate about supporting the city centre by working with partners to attract new jobs and investment and ensure Exeter is a safe space with a low crime rate.

It’s an exciting time for Exeter. We are currently working on a new Corporate Plan which sets out the next steps to creating a successful city where all of our residents, businesses and communities can thrive.

We are developing plans to relocate our offices right into the heart of the city centre to create an exciting new space that will be a catalyst for collaborative working.

Next year Exeter is a host city for the Women’s Rugby World Cup, providing a fantastic opportunity to highlight the city to a global audience, and create a lasting legacy of participation in sport, particularly for women and girls.

There are challenges to overcome too, and our new leaders will play a full part in ensuring that we continue to balance our budget and develop a fit-for-purpose organisation capable of leading the city into the future.

This is an outstanding opportunity which requires exceptional candidates with strong track records. If your ambitions match ours for the city, we want to hear from you.
